Speaking of, Mirror's Edge can't seem to decide what it wants to do with the combat aspect. Obviously, anyone who takes on armed platoons of burly soldiers empty handed would have needed to have had his brain and his scrotum switched around, so half the time the game will tell you to just run your stupid arse away, but at other times it will be, for various reasons, impossible to proceed until you've murdered all the decent, hard-working, married police officers who are forced to open fire after you've refused to cooperate. Because we really only have the main character's word for it that the government is evil. About the only evidence presented is that they keep everything looking extremely clean and shiny. So, OK, maybe they run their janitorial services a bit dictatorially, but for all we know you're delivering mailbombs to terrorist groups so they can plant them all under somebody's doting, silver-haired mother.

Although Kamogawa's pride was hurt, he was aware of the gap between Japanese prizefighting and American boxing, and declined to challenge Anderson on the basis that true boxers fight against their own weight division, and as a bantamweight, Kamogawa was no match for Anderson. However, Nekota secretly arranged a fight with Anderson. Kamogawa furiously rushed to the match after realising Nekota had been brain-damaged after their last fight together. Despite Nekota's superior speed, he was crippled by an illegal Rabbit Punch and was severely beaten before Kamogawa interfered and stopped the match.

The next title on our list of the best PS1 games is Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, an underworld themed action-adventure game of epic proportions. Set 150 years after Blood Omen, the first game in the series, Soul Reaver brings Dark Souls style fun with some demonic characters and blood-thirsty battles.

Italic have taken inspiration from Belgian comics and heist films of the 1960s for their game. The art style is pure 2D, with each scene presented from the side. The graphics are a colourful semi-realistic cartoon style reminiscent of the pulp fiction of the past with smooth animation. While the graphics are 2D, doorways in the foreground and background give the map a full 3D shape. The demo covered a chapter in the middle of the game, where the two thieves find themselves in an abandoned metro station. All they need to progress is a bolt cutter, but that will take some doing. For example, a wire that electrifies a flooded corridor between it and the generator makes powering a door more difficult. Clicking with the mouse moves the character around, with action icons appearing when you walk next to hotspots. When you pick up an object, a close-up and description appear on-screen. From there items move to the bottom of the screen, where they can be selected to use on other hotspots or on each other. There are no voices, but a wealth of sound effects including creaking hinges and the protagonist's footsteps. 2ff7e9595c
